Ed Sheeran has revealed he’s launching his own record label. The visiting British singer revealed details of his new project last night on Nova, telling Smallzy his first signing was Jamie Lawson, a fellow UK muso who is supporting him on his sold out Australian tour.

“I’ve set up my first record label, it’s called Gingerbread and Jamie’s my first signing and I wanted Australia to be the launch pad because Australia is a country that I feel would really dig Jamie,” he said.

“I’ve known Jamie for about five or six years. He’s just a phenomenal talent.”

The Thinking Out Loud singer and Lawson visited the station in Pyrmont last night ahead of their first Sydney performances at Qantas Credit Union Arena on Tuesday night, the first of three before heading to Melbourne on Saturday.

Lawson performed his latest single Wasn’t Expecting That during the Smallzy’s Surgery visit, which will be released in Australia next month.

Sheeran gave the local music industry a chuckle on Saturday when he Tweeted to his 12.9 million followers a message about Australian music industry heavyweight Michael Gudinski, who is known for talking so fast he is almost unintelligible.

“Guidinski (sic) is in town, he needs a translator and a cuddle,” he wrote.
