Ed Sheeran On The Perks of Being Weird and Strange as a Child with Karen Carson

Let’s get weird.

Words to live by coming from Ed Sheeran, especially if you’re young and dealing with the pangs of growing up.
“I was a weird kid,” Sheeran tells Fresh 102.7’s Karen Carson. “I was really strange. I didn’t have many friends in primary school.”

Sheeran’s “strange” behavior shaped him as he grew older, manifesting itself in his early songwriting while in secondary school at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham. As for the cool kids, they’re doing their own thing.

“All the popular kids in primary school are now not really doing that well,” says Sheeran.

“I think if you’re a weird kid,” adds Sheeran, “you grow up to be an interesting adult.”

Ed Sheeran has four shows coming up in the Tri-state area over the next few days. Fans hoping to hear some new music along with his usual hits shouldn’t get their hopes up. Sheeran is planning on taking some time off from music after a long stretch of non-stop recording and touring, though that is no reason to freak out.

“I’m just taking a year off from releasing things, I’m still touring,” says Sheeran. “So it’s not really a year off, you just won’t have any new music for a year.”
