So when Ed Sheeran tells you to play a song…well you damn well play it don’t you!

The kid know his tunes, drops the F bomb (a couple of times) demands we play Hozier and takes full credit for the popularity of Passenger!

Ed Sheeran serenaded a sell-out crowd at Brisbane Riverstage on Friday night, despite suffering from a bout of “man flu”.

The 23-year-old Brit opened his set at the first concert of his Australian headline tour with his sing-along tune, I’m A Mess.

Sheeran had devoted fans worried on Friday morning after he tweeted “Damn man flu go away”.

However his voice showed no sign of strain and he made it through his solo set accompanied by his acoustic guitar and a loop pedal.

The singer-songwriter touched down in Brisbane on Wednesday and said he was glad to be back in the city after two years away.

“Australia is hands down my favourite place to tour in the world,” he said.

During the concert, Sheeran played some of his biggest hits including Thinking Out Loud – the most recent single from his album X which recently passed 2 million sales.

The adoring crowd kept pace with the singer when he remixed his song Take Me Back with the Stevie Wonder classic, Superstition.

He also bravely donned his trademark black T-shirt and jeans on the balmy night for the show.

“I think I’ve sweated out everything I’ve put into my body ever, which can only be a good thing,” he said.
Sheeran set tickets to his Australian concerts at the flat rate of $99 to avoid elitism amongst fans.
However this has not stopped punters bidding up to $225 for them on Gumtree.

Sheeran last visited the country in September for his performance at the AFL Grand Final alongside Tom Jones.
He will perform two more shows in Brisbane across the sweltering weekend, before continuing his tour around Australia and New Zealand.
